Pfizer announced that its newly developed COVID-19 vaccine is over 90% effective. Will you get vaccinated?
While the Center for Disease Control reports more than 10 million total COVID-19 cases in the United States as of November 10, a coronavirus vaccine being developed by Pfizer and BioNTech has proven to be over 90 percent effective.
But Americans remain divided on whether of not they would get the vaccine, according to a Pew Research study. Willingness among American adults to be inoculated decreased from 42% to just 21% from May to September 2020. Experts estimate that 70% of the population would need to have COVID-19 antibodies to halt the epidemic.
Some states are considering making the vaccine mandatory. Gov. Ned Lamont said he has no plans to order mass vaccinations in Connecticut. Lamont estimated that Connecticut would receive 50,000 to 100,000 doses from Pfizer by the end of the year.
Health experts from UC Davis say people are experiencing ‘COVID fatigue’. This fatigue may be causing a spike in cases, according to Dr. Ashish Jha of Brown University School of Public Health.
UConn has also been dealing with a significant increase in cases. With a week left before students leave campus for Thanksgiving break to finish the semester online, the the university placed all residence halls in quarantine, The Daily Campus reported.
Some questions:
